Mario L. Barnes, ºìÌÒÊÓÆµ Toni Rembe Dean and professor of law, was named to Lawyers of Color’s fifth annual , which recognizes the most influential minority attorneys and allies in the country.

ºìÌÒÊÓÆµâ€™s Margaret Kolberg, Academic Services program coordinator, and Dorian Varga, lead career coach and academic advisor, are among the nominees for the 2020 Distinguished Staff Awards.

Kristina Larry joined the law school as staff attorney overseeing the Moderate Means Program, one of the flagship pro bono opportunities for students at ºìÌÒÊÓÆµ.

Professor Theodore Myhre was promoted to principal lecturer at ºìÌÒÊÓÆµ.


STUDENTS

ºìÌÒÊÓÆµâ€™s Thurgood Marshall Mock Trial Team — Shiyun Chen, Treja Jones, Channing Reeves and Mary Ruffin — won their second-straight regional title at the .

Ph.D. candidate Megan McClosky and her team were awarded a 2020 award for their project, “Disability Inclusive Development Initiative: Building and International Collaborative.â€

Black Law Student Association President Mary Ruffin received the WRBLSA Chapter Leader of the Year award.


CLASS NOTES

The South Puget Sound Community College formally dedicated its campus art gallery as the , named for Leonor R. Fuller ‘84 in honor of her ongoing advocacy for arts and education.

Distinguished ºìÌÒÊÓÆµ alumnus Erman Rajagukguk LL.M. '84, recipient of the 2013 ALC Lifetime Achievement Award, joined fellow alumni in Jakarta to help officially launch the UW Alumni Association’s Indonesia chapter.

The named Melissa Robertson ’03 the team’s vice president, deputy general counsel.

Gov. Jay Inslee named Laura Watson ‘98 director of the Washington State Department of Ecology.


IN MEMORIAM

Dwayne Copple ‘85 was an accomplished member of the Seattle legal community who worked at a number of top firms as a decorated business attorney. .

The Hon. Robert Harris ‘41 served as Clark County Superior Court Judge as part of a storied career in the legal field after graduating from ºìÌÒÊÓÆµ. He died at age 99.

Christopher John Hurley LL.M. ’07, ’11 was a longtime lawyer, COO and CFO at Sproqit Technologies, and co-founder of Beacon Law Advisors who earned a Master of Law in taxation and a Master of Law in intellectual property law at the UW. .
